China Passport Photo Requirements
To travel internationally as a Chinese national, you will require your own passport. To apply for a new Chinese passport or renewal you will require a personal photo that fits the requirements listed below. You must have a minimum of four photos with you for your application. Without obtaining a personal photo, you may face rejection with your passport application.
| Background | Plain white background. Photos with patterned or other colored backgrounds will be rejected. |
| Features | 1. Natural facial expressions. 2. The individual should not be smiling. 3. Hair should be pulled back and not obscure the face. 4. The face should be centered in the photo. |
| Head position | Head straight, not tilted and should be parallel to the camera lens. |
| Eyes | Eyes wide open, looking towards the camera and without the use of colored lenses. It is recommended to not wear glasses. |
| Dress code | No headwear should be visible. This includes caps, scarves, sunglasses, etc. Religious wear is permitted, as long as it does not obscure the face. |
| Resolution (pixels) | At least 600 dpi without ink trace. |
| Photo Size | The digital photo should be between 354 – 420 pixels (width) x 472 – 560 pixels (height). The physical photo should be 33mm (width) x 48 mm (height). |
| Digital Photo Requirements | It should be in JPEG format and file size should be between 40-120 KB. |
| Physical Photo Print Quality | The photo print should be on high quality glossy photo paper, not matte. |
| Age of Photo | The photo should have been taken within the last 6 months. The image should be legible and not blurry, this is required as immigration officers will be required to identify you through this image. All face features and marks must be visible. |
| Head Size | The head width should be between 22and 24mm. The head height (measured from chin to the crown of the head) should be between 28 and 33mm. The space between the crown of the head and the top of the photo should be between 3 – 5mm. The space from the chin to the bottom of the photo should be less than or equal to 7 mm. |
